Following is an abbreviated version of the more detailed and
involved process of obtaining distribution. This information
has been compiled to educate the independent label/artist on
how to formulate a proper strategy to obtain and maintain
distribution through an independent source. This information
should not be deemed as the only requirements necessary for
distribution. Consult L.G.N.Entertainment Distribution for
their specific requirements.
I. The Pre-Distribution process The decision as to whether or not you will obtain distribution begins with the initial creation of your product. Consult a notable source (i.e. reputable radio announcer, producer, songwriter, other industry colleagues, etc.) BEFORE you begin the recording process! It is important to ensure that your finished product is marketable. Another very important step in the recording process is to ensure top quality mixing and mastering. Radio announcers will not play audibly incorrect music. Confirm that artwork for the cover, point of purchase and other pre-release Marketing tools (press kit, EPK, postcards, samplers, etc.) are up to today's music standards. II. Marketing and Promotions Strategy The distribution company must be confident that the label has a sensible, feasible, and well thought out strategy to ensure sell-through of product. A viable marketing plan should be supported by a budget that will allow for adequate promotions of your product in the three components of the marketing stage: radio, retail, and publicity. III. Types of Distribution Available Regional: The smaller one-stops provide this type of distribution. They are usually located in the major markets and in tri-state areas. This mode of distribution is very effective for targeting segmented markets. L.G.N. Entertainment Distribution targets these segmented markets. |
